Behavior Consultant Job Description

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Behavior Consultant will be to help clients identify and address problematic behaviors through the creation and implementation of a Functional Assessment and Behavior Support Plan. The goal of the consultant is to decrease maladaptive behaviors by working with the client and his/her team to teach appropriate replacement behaviors.  The Behavior Consultant will report directly to the Business Owner who may make changes in job duties from time to time.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete behavioral consultation with clients, family members and/or guardians, and any other member of the client's treatment team (such as: physicians, therapists, DCS or probation, foster parents and/or biological family, etc.)
  • Complete Functional Assessments (FA), Behavior Support Plans (BSP), or possible goal-oriented treatment plans
  • Attend and participate in family and team meetings and/or probation meetings if applicable
  • Attend any meetings scheduled by Business Owner or Choice's Coordinator
  • Obtain all needed signatures for required paperwork
  • Behavior Consultant is responsible for bringing paperwork to the meeting for the purpose of filing copies in the main file
  • Complete BSP training and other behavior documentation procedures with clients, family members, and other service providers as needed
  • Complete monthly progress notes and monthly billing summaries for each client. In addition, the consultant will periodically attach behavioral data with an updated baseline.
  • Submit monthly progress notes no later that the 5th day of each calendar month. Billing will not occur until progress notes are uploaded.  
  • Consistent home visitation and follow up with service providers and family
  • When sending protected health information, make sure that it is encrypted 
  • Manage acquisition of referrals by uploading client information to FBS Microsoft TEAMS
  • Ensure all required documentation is available for review when a client or service is under survey. Notify proper personnel of the audit as soon as possible
  • Exhibit effective correspondence and communication with all providers, family members, staff members, clients,  and all other treatment team members as applicable. Be sure to return phone calls and/or text messages within a 24-hour time frame.

Job Requirements and Qualities

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Special Education, Rehabilitative Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Applied Behavior Analyst
  • A report of "no findings" when criminal history checks are completed
  • Prior experience with persons with developmental disabilities (preferred)
  • Able to pass a Department of Child Services background check
  • Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation
