Behavior Consultant Job Description

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Behavior Consultant will be to help clients identify and address problematic behaviors through the creation and implementation of a Functional Assessment and Behavior Support Plan. The goal of the consultant is to decrease maladaptive behaviors by working with the client and his/her team to teach appropriate replacement behaviors.  The Behavior Consultant will report directly to the Business Owner who may make changes in job duties from time to time.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completion of behavioral consultation with clients, family members and/or guardians, and any other member of the client's treatment team (such as: physicians, therapists, DCS or probation, foster parents and/or biological family, etc.)
  • Completion of Functional Assessments (FA), Behavior Support Plans (BSP), or possible goal-oriented treatment plans
  • Attendance and participation in family and team meetings and/or probation meetings if applicable
  • Attending any meetings scheduled by Business Owner or Choice's Coordinator
  • Obtain all needed signatures for required paperwork
  • Responsible for bringing paperwork to the meeting for the purpose of filing copies in the main file
  • Completion of training on the BSPs and behavior documentation procedures with clients, family members, and other providers as needed
  • Completion of a monthly progress note and monthly summary for each clients. In addition, the consultant will periodically attach behavioral data with an updated baseline
  • Submit monthly progress notes no later that the 5th day of each calendar month. Billing will not occur until progress notes are in the files. Consultants should send these to the office manager and Choice's Coordinator
  • Consistent home visitation and follow up with service providers and family
  • When sending protected health information, make sure that it is encrypted and sent through an active Hushmail account
  • Manage acquisition of referrals by sending name and contact information to James Ferraro
  • Ensure all required documentation is available for review when a client or service is under survey. Notify proper personnel of the audit as soon as possible
  • Exhibit effective correspondence and communication with all providers, family members, staff members, clients,  and all other treatment team members as applicable. Be sure to return phone calls and/or text messages within a 24-hour time frame.

Qualities and Experience Required

  • Possess a Master's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Special Education, Rehabilitative Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Applied Behavior Analyst
  • A report of "no findings" when criminal history checks are completed
  • Prior experience with persons with developmental disabilities (preferred)
  • Able to pass a Department of Child Services background check
